G Scale Lionel Model Trains

The Lionel Corporation was one of the original American toy train companies.  It was created in 1900 as a company that specialized in electronic novelties of all kinds but when it found out that constructing trains was something it was good at, it really shifted the bulk of its resources to that enterprise and became one of the most loved train companies in the country.  The last trains of the company were sold in 1969, about ten years after the company's peak at $25 million in annual sales.

The main highlight to trains made by the Lionel Corporation is their big name.  The truth of the matter is that modelling in large part has come a long way since the 1960s and for that reason there are many trains of better quality, better craftsmanship and better cost around.  However, the Lionel Corporation's electric train was the first electric toy to be inducted into the United States National Toy Hall of Fame and it really did pave the way for the other trains that followed.  It is a nostalgia piece and of course a very popular collector's item that has a high investment but is pretty much guaranteed to gain value as time goes on.
