HO Scale Hornby Model Trains
Hornby was established in 1901 by Frank Hornby. During that time, the company is known for their patented Meccano toy model train. It was only during the 20s the company expanded to other toy trains and their first scale mode trains were released in 1938. Hornby specialized in 00 model scale trains and their dominance in the industry and scale model continues until today. Add to this success is the fact that UK prefers 00 scale models. Although the company faced some fiscal problems during the 80s, they came back on track due to a buyout which led to additional acquisitions of different manufacturers of model trains and toys.
Even though Hornby has more than 100 years of experience in the model scale industry, their HO model scale was only released during the 80s, right after the buyout. But even with the later entry to the HO model scale market, the quality of the HO is highly competitive. The HO model scale of Hornby is manufactured through their acquired company Rivarossi, an Italian model scale train manufacturer. Through their experience and expertise of Rivarossi, the Hornby continues its tradition of excellence and leadership in developing model scale of different UK trains.
