Marklin or Märklin is one of the oldest toy manufacturers in the world, credited for various innovations not only in toys but also in model scale trains. The company was established in1859 where they started by manufacturing dolls but ventured to model trains by releasing wind-up model scale trains in 1891. The company also manufactured different train sets for other brands which even increased its popularity. The company, since it was established is owned by only three families until 2006 wherein they restructured the organization for different shareholders. The company continued their expansion through different acquisitions of model scale manufacturers.
Märklin is credited for developing HO model scale trains. The reception of HO model scale trains of Märklin and even in other brands in Europe is unfortunately, not strong. However, Märklin found success in their HO model when they released HO model scale trains in US. Their innovation was soon followed by different model scale manufacturers. Märklin is known for their unique and hidden third rail which aids to control the HO scales through digital control. This innovation was introduced in 2004 and could be found in most HO model scales of Märklin that were released in that year and following years.
