HO Scale Varney Model Trains

Gordon Varney was a pioneer in HO Scale model trains. Varney’s hallmark development was of the V-1 motor.  The motor was the right size for an HO scale locomotive, with enough power (6 V) and supplied enough power for hobbyists of the time. In the 1940s, Varney presented his first HO Scale models in the 4-6-2 Pacific and the 2-8-0 Consolidation. These two models are often described as rough compared to locomotive models of the present day. The mechanisms in these models were additionally described as finely made and reliable.  In addition, Mr. Varney designed and produced a wide variety of rolling stock as well.

Varney’s company was begun in 1936, and flourished until 1960 sale of his company. Mr. Varney’s other contribution to the model railroad hobby was his firm belief in the HO Scale. Additionally, Varney produced vivid, informative catalogs which presented fascinating exploded views and editorials that still applies to model railroad hobbyists of today’s world.
