N Scale Atlas Model Trains
Atlas model trains are built by Atlas Tool Company established by Stephan Schaffan Sr. in 1924. The company used to be a machine shop and only found success when Stephan Schaffan Jr., started building model trains from spare parts of different model trains. They found a niche in selling pre-assembled trains and easy to join rails which was rare during that time. Because of their success in model trains, Atlas Tool Company became a corporation dedicated to model scale trains in 1949. Stephan Schaffan Jr. became a recognized hobbyist by providing additional innovations and expanding their product line to other countries. Although incorporated, Atlas Tool Company is still considered as a family owned company.
The N scale trains of Atlas were introduced a little bit later along with the HO scale model. But company experience and expertise along with the original innovations of Stephan Schaffan Jr. have made these adoptions easier. Most of the N scale models today are powered and controlled by DCC. The couplers of the N scale model feature Accomate knuckles which increase the durability and adoptability of the N scale model to other brands aside from Atlas. They also equipped with dual fly-wheels which also increases the durability of the N scale model and adaptability rails.
